Recycling Economy

At Wanhua, we vigorously carry out the construction of a cycling economy in the Industrial Park on the basis of the idea of big regional recycling and explore a new set of cycling economy development models as follows:
The waste brine generated in the MDI production process is treated to obtain chlor-alkali production materials;
The byproduct H2 of low cost generated in the chlor-alkali generative process is used for generating aniline after recycling;
The byproduct hydrochloric acid is used as raw materials for PVC and propylene epoxide respectively, thereby extending the industrial chain;
The HCL oxidation process is introduced and adopted to enhance low value-added HCL to high value-added Cl2;
The slag and ash are used for the production of building materials such as cement and building blocks after reprocessing.

Solid Waste Discharge

At Wanhua, we actively implement source reduction and comprehensive utilization of solid waste in accordance with the principle of the solid waste disposal of “reduction, reclamation, harmlessness”. All the slag generated in the thermal power plant is used in the manufacturing of building materials; useful components extracted from aniline tar is used for recycling; and process exhaust gas and waste liquid are treated through harmless incineration, through which the heat is recycled for generating steam used for the production device. The Company achieves the year-by-year reduction of solid waste rate of products of ten thousand tons.

Regarding the harmless disposal of solid waste, we apply information technologies such as bar codes, GPS, electronic locks and supervisory platforms to solid waste generation and transfer processes to supervise the whole process of the transfer of solid waste.

Sulfur Emission Reduction

The Claus sulfur recovery technology is used to convert acid exhaust gas generated in the production process into elemental sulfur, the SO2 concentration in the treated exhaust gas is 80 mg/Nm3, which is much less than 400 mg/Nm3 prescribed in the national standard. By means of this measure, the annual recycled sulfur can be 2,700 tons, which is equivalent to the reduction of the emission of 5,400 tons of SO2 to the atmosphere.

The flue gas of the thermal power plant is treated through the advanced ammonia desulfurization technology by using the byproduct ammonium hydroxide to absorb SO2 in the flue gas to achieve the treatment of wastes with processes of wastes against one another, so that 11,000 tons of good quality ammonium sulfate can be produced annually, which is equivalent to the reduction of the emission of SO2 of 5,500 tons to the atmosphere.

Carbon Emission Reduction

In order to actively respond to climate change and reduce greenhouse gas emission, Ningbo Industrial Park subjects exhaust CO2 to deep processing and refining treatment to generate food-grade CO2, so that annual CO2 emissions of 150,000 tons can be reduced, which is equivalent to annual savings of coal consumption of 600,000 tons.

Exhaust Gas Emission Disposal

At Wanhua, we have set a target of zero fugitive emissions and organized emissions meeting 100% of standards. We use intrinsically environmentally friendly designs by subjecting breathing gas of storage tanks, volatile exhaust gas of the wastewater treatment plant structures and volatile exhaust gas of loaders to closed systems, and collection and centralized treatment. Meanwhile, we continuously implement process optimization, gradually popularizing the LDAR (leak detection and repair) technology, and carry out comprehensive testing through continuous comparing of our processes with emission standards in the U.S. and the EU, thereby playing a good model role in the waste gas treatment field of the industry.

Wastewater Discharge Disposal

At Wanhua, we vigorously carry out processing of wastewater and sewage, with our wastewater reuse rate increasing every year. We have invested more than 6 million yuan to build a reclaimed water reuse system in the Ningbo Industrial Park in 2010, and the wastewater up to standards from a sewage treatment plant are subjected to ultrafiltration and reverse osmosis treatment to obtain supplemental water of circulating water, thereby annually saving 900,000 tons of fresh water. Wanhua has independently developed a technology of the integration of treatment and reuse of waste brine to turn waste materials into reusable materials, so that the worthless waste brine is changed into raw materials of 100 yuan/ton, with obvious wastewater discharge reduction effects.
